With its wide-open panoramic vista, this majestic view inspired me and provided a unique opportunity to paint an aerial perspective in oil. Captured in broken light, the artwork portrays the southern Okanagan region between Oliver and Okanagan Falls in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. This spectacular vineyard overlooks Vaseux Lake.

Vaseux is a large body of freshwater located along the course of the Okanagan River. Descriptive of the lake’s silty water, the name “vaseux” is French, meaning muddy or murky. It is believed that French Canadian fur traders originally gave the lake its name. The microclimate in the district as well as the ideal gravel and clay soils provide superb conditions to grow both red and white grapes. The wilderness area surrounding the lake is also classified as a migratory bird sanctuary.

Bromley Rock Provincial Park, B.C

20 kilometers west of Princeton B.C., a large, unusual rock formation stands majestically overlooking a rocky beach and bend in the Similkameen River.  The emerald-coloured waters of the river and the uneven, rough texture of the granite rock face provided the artist an inspiring opportunity to paint this unique and remarkable landscape.  Each year during the hot summer months, people travel from far and wide to swim in this picturesque portion of the Similkameen and they take great pleasure jumping from the 50 foot face of the rock into the cool waters below. Towards early fall this part of the river becomes a perfect location for fly fisherman intent on catching a trophy rainbow trout.
